Pedro Porro, the 23-year-old right back from Spain, is one of the more sought-after players today. The versatile defender has proven his worth several times over and was in open discussions with several top-flight clubs. Finally, the deal has been sealed as Pedro remains in the English Premier League.
Player Profile and History
Primarily, Porro started in CF Peralda, before moving to Girona. Allegedly, Pedro rejected some mind-boggling offers from Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Bayern Munich to join the Catalans. Soon after, he moved to Girona, where he started showing off his capacity but didn’t stay for long.
Only a few months later, Pedro caught the eye of the English giant, Manchester City. However, the Cityzens didn’t hold onto him, as they quickly sent him to Real Valladolid for one season. The Pucelanos had the option to buy him at the end of the loan but decided not to.
Similarly, in the following season, City sent Pedro on a two-year loan to Sporting CP, where he finally started to prove his worth. His outstanding performance against teams in both national and international leagues amazed the club and the fans.
Most recently, Porro moved to Tottenham on loan, with an obligation to buy in the summer transfer window. However, there were alternatives at the end of his loan, as some clubs have shown their interest.
Real Madrid and Chelsea Talks
One of the initial rumours that came up with Pedro’s loan ending was from Real Madrid. As the Portuguese newspaper O Jogo reported, Los Blancos were watching closely the performance of the defensive winger.
However, Tottenham have made an agreement to sign Pedro at the end of the summer. Considering the transfer amount of £39m, it is unlikely the Spurs will let him go for anything less. This is the main reason why this deal with Real ain’t happening.
A similar situation popped up with Chelsea. Namely, the Blues had set their eyes on the right winger and entered negotiations with Sporting. They had already done this once to Arsenal, as they stole Mykhailo Mudryk.
However, they could not sweeten the deal as the Spurs did with the alteration of the Edwards sell-on clause. Instead, they would have to beat the £39m release clause Tottenham are paying.
Transfer to Tottenham
Finally, with the end of his loan, Tottenham made the last move and officially signed Pedro Porro on 1 July. The Spurs completed the initial deal of paying £39 to Sporting, officially making the Spaniard a Tottenham player. Moreover, the Spurs also paid the original load price of around five million euros.
However, Tottenham and Sporting were not the only clubs involved in this deal. Namely, Manchester City got a cut from the Porro deal, as per their sell-on clause with Sporting. The Citizens got £10m as the Spurs permanently, as they had the right to around 30% of any profit Sporting made.
