Real Madrid are one of the most trophied football clubs in the world. In their incredible history, Los Blancos won countless trophies in both international and national competitions. Their most significant trophies include 34 La Liga, and 14 Champions League titles
The reigning champions of the UCL, Los Merengues, are enjoying another quality season. Find out more about Real’s performance in all competitions this season below.
Champions League
Los Blancos from Madrid continue to produce extraordinary results in the Champions League. They have clearly found the secret ingredient to winning the most prestigious football competition. This season, they have their eyes set on the 15th trophy.
It was clear that Los Merengues are among the favourites to win the competition from the start. In the first round of the playoffs, Real went up against Liverpool. With an outstanding 2:5 win at Anfield, it was clear what their priorities are this season. On aggregate, Real overcame the Reds 6:2.
In the second round, Real Madrid went up against another top-flight English club. Los Blancos easily overcame the first leg against Chelsea with a 2:0 win at home. Chelsea are struggling this season, but they still have a chance to take Real out of the competition.
While you can’t write off any of the clubs remaining in the competition, Real’s biggest threat are Manchester City. If the results favour both Real and City, they can meet in the semifinals. Even after that, they are to either AC Milan, Napoli, Benfica, or Inter. But, Citizens remain the biggest challenge.
La Liga
Real Madrid are the current La Liga champions. They have won the national league 35 times so far, and have been the runners-up 24 times. This season is a bit more challenging for Los Blancos, as they are 11 points behind Barcelona, the table leaders. With nine more games remaining in the league, their chances of lifting the La Liga trophy are small.
Barcelona took the crucial win in the most recent La Liga El Clasico, with a 2:1 win. While Real are looking to retake the throne, they should also look out for Atletico, who are only two points behind.
Real will have trouble focusing on the national league with the Champions League and Copa del Rey participation. Nonetheless, they will continue to fight on all fronts, looking to seize all the crucial trophies this season.
Copa del Rey
The Cope Del Rey, or La Copa, is the oldest Spanish football competition played nationally. Los Blancos won the tournament 19 times so far, and this season, they have a chance to win their 20th title.
To reach the finals, Los Blancos overcame opponents such as Villareal and Atletico Madrid. However, their most challenging matchup was against their rivals, Barcelona. In this La Copa El Clasico, Real lost the first leg 1:0 at home.
It seemed like Barcelona had an easy road to the finals. But with a stunning 4:0 win at Camp Nou, Los Blancos reached the competition’s finals. Real’s opponent in the finals of the tournament are Osasuna. If they can win here, they will secure another major trophy in their already long list of championships won.
