The newest Premier League season began on 16 August. The format and the general rules remained the same. So, we saw three teams (Luton, Sheffield, and Burnley) undergo relegation.
While everyone is talking about the favourites to win this competition this season, as well as the latest transfers, I came to think about the three new Premier League clubs. In other words, I was curious about how strong Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton are and how far they can go.
Leicester
Leicester, the former champions from the season 2015/16, became part of the most elite English league again this season. They played in this league two seasons before. After suffering relegation, the Foxes wasted no time improving their form and their game.
The results came in soon. The Foxes won as many as 31 matches out of the 46 games that they played. They also scored 89 goals, allowing more than twice as few (41). All this put them in the first spot on the table with 97. Leicester also left the other two new clubs in Premier League, Southampton, and Ipswich behind.
As their manager, Marseca, left for Chelsea, the Foxes now have Cooper as their leader. While Cooper has a different coaching style, we all remember what happened eight years ago. Therefore, almost every other team took note of Liecester’s ability to make surprises.
Ipswich
Ipswich is the second among the new Premier League clubs for the season 2024/25. Just like the Foxes, the Tractor Boys showed a lot of devotion and skills. They won 28 matches during a 46-round season in the Championship. With only six defeats, Ipswich won a total of 96 points, which was only one less than Leicester.
Overall, the Tractor Boys ranked second and went straight to the Premier League. But unlike the Foxes, Ipswich were not part of the Premier League that often. Also, many experts did not anticipate that the Tractor Boys would even advance to the Premier League. That’s why lots of fans praise Kieran Mckenna’s skills.
Nevertheless, if we check what bookies say, we’ll see that they don’t expect too much from this team. In fact, Ipswich is one of the teams in the new Premier League table that has the highest chances of undergoing relegation again, according to the odds.
Southampton
An almost regular Premier League member, Southampton, did not take the third spot in the Championship seasons 2023/24, which led to an automatic promotion. Instead, the Saints took three points less than the third-ranked Leeds, which had 90 points in total.
Southampton won 26 games, which is somewhat close to the number of games Leeds and Ipswich won. On the other hand, the Saints drew nine and lost 11 games. This resulted in 87 points and taking fourth place on the table.
However, this didn’t stop Southampton from advancing to the Premier League after playing in the Championship playoffs. In the finals, the Saints faced none other than Leeds, which they beat by 1:0.
Even though Southampton proved to be hard to beat at times, bookies tell us that this club’s chances of going back to the Championship are similar to those of Ipswich. The Saints signed some young players and have a youthful squad. With them being the outsiders, the only thing remaining for us is to wait and see if they can do any better.
