As you may or may have not heard, we are not getting the European Competition in 2020 as planned. In fact, we may not be getting a lot of sports as well. Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, many sports competitions have either been postponed or completely scrapped.
The Champions League will finish off as a tournament, while the Europe League will see its end decided in Germany. Another enormous sports competition that was moved was the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that will take place next year.

Why Has Euro 2020 Been Postponed?
After the outbreak of the coronavirus that impeached most of sports competitions and the entire way of life that we know, Euro 2020 was one of the biggest sports competitions that were affected by it.
Due to the devastation caused by the virus, safety regulations could possibly not be met. More so, travel restrictions have been made and each country imposes its own rules. This makes the situation a lot harder when traveling from country to country, especially for sports reasons.
When was Euro 2020 Supposed to Take Place?
Euro 2020 was seen as a 60-year anniversary of the European Competition. The idea behind it was to hold the competition for the first time in 12 different countries on 12 different venues.
The competition was supposed to start on June 11 2020 and finish off with a final on the Wembley Stadium in London on 11 July 2020.
Why are the Playoffs Postponed Indefinitely?
Euro 2020 is supposed to count a total of 32 national teams from Europe. There are a few additional play-off matches that need to be played to determine the final contestants in the tournament.
However, due to the changing situation with the coronavirus pandemic, the safety of the people and players involved cannot be guaranteed. For now, the play-off matches are postponed for an unknown date and will be determined once the situation settles down and better safety conditions are possible.
When Will Euro 2020 be Played Now?
A decision was made to postpone the entire tournament for 12 months. This is a big blow for all the organizers involved and the national teams as well. However, the situation is more than serious and in order to preserve the integrity of the completion and the safety of players, this move had to be made.
The Euro 2020 tournament will take place on 11 June 2021 and end on 11 July 2021.
What’s Next for Sports in Europe?
After successfully postponing Euro 2020 priority has been given to all the domestic leagues. A decision was made for all European leagues to find a solution to bring a close to their domestic competitions. This should not impose with the schedule and will preserve the flow of completion that has been followed for years now.
Certain leagues have already made plans to bring their leagues to a close, but some have decided to suspend them completely.
