Different generations have witnessed different football spectacles throughout the decades. The TV broadcasts are no strangers to such events. Still, it’s the live emotion and feeling that can make us all passionate.
In contrast to arenas and the majority of courts, football stadiums have always been larger, wider, and ready to take lots of spectators. Remembering history and some accidents, such as Hillsborough, advanced technology and precautions are at the highest levels nowadays.

Wembley Stadium (90,000)
Wembley is actually the biggest stadium in the whole of the UK. The first pillars of this magnificent building were set back in the 1920s. The stadium preserved its original looks up until 2007.
After the renovation, this stadium’s capacity jumped to 90,000. In fact, this is also one of the largest soccer stadiums in Europe. It’s the second largest, to be exact. Because of its capacity, the stadium hosts concerts. It broke the record for the most concerts hosted during one summer in 2022.
Old Trafford (74,310)
Another building that belongs to the category of the largest soccer stadiums in Europe is Old Trafford. It’s not the biggest one, I know. But in terms of UK football stadiums, it’s the second-biggest.
The home of the legendary English club, Manchester United, Bobby Charlton gave it “The Theatre of Dreams” nickname. It dates back to the first half of the 20th century. Man Utd even shared it with their fiercest rivals, Man City, back in the day. It went through a few reconstructions throughout its existence.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (62,850)
The third of the largest stadiums made for football games is the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. One of the most well-known and well-liked teams, the Spurs, welcome their rivals there.
It appeared relatively recently. The construction of this beautiful stadium took about three years, i.e., lasted from 2016 to 2019. Before this, Tottehnam used to play at the White Hart Lane.
This stadium underwent demolition in the 2016/2017 season. Its capacity was twice as small as that of the current Spurs stadium (62,850). Being so large, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium also hosts events other than football games.
London Stadium (62,500)
Not necessarily one of the largest stadiums solely built for football, the London Stadium is a multi-purpose building with a pretty nice capacity of 62,500 spectators. It’s yet another not-very-old stadium.
Actually, this project went live in 2012 for the purpose of hosting the Olympic events. Besides many events, we could see the opening and closing Ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics and the 2012 Paralympic games.
As mentioned earlier, it’s not only football games that fans can see there. Some other sporting events that are often ongoing at the London Stadium are cricket, baseball, athletics, and more.
