Fulham makes a swift comeback to the Premier League after defeating Brentford in the Championship Playoff final by 2-1 at Wembley Stadium. The match had to go into overtime to determine the winner, where all three goals were scored. Both teams were very tight and played cautiously throughout the whole match. After an uneventful first half came an even worse second one. But both teams managed to make it up in the extra time.
It was Joe Bryan that broke the drought at the end of the first extra period. Bryan scored a magnificent goal from a free-kick, fooling Brentford’s keeper David Raya who ended up on the wrong side.
In the 117th minute, it was Joe Bryan again. A nifty, futsal exchange with forward Mitrovic allowed him to put the ball into the net once more as his second of the game.
Brentford did manage to get one back at the very last minute of the game via a Henrik Dalsgaard effort. But it was all that they could do.
Fulham makes it back to the Premier League after only being a year away and joins the already promoted Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion.
