This is a continuation of Tuesday’s recap of Matchday 5 of the Champions League. Some teams have already qualified for the next round of the competition. Let’s see how the teams from Groups E, F, G, and H are doing.
Sevilla – Chelsea: 0-4
Chelsea is on fire! This is their fourth consecutive win and what a win it was. They were precise, aggressive, and unstoppable. Olivier Giroud stole the spotlight from all potential strikers, having scored all four goals. Sevilla now needs more than a victory over Krasnodar to beat the Blues. They need a ludicrous number of goals in their favor to get to number 1, but there is no need for that. Sevilla will be moving on to the next stage.
Krasnodar – Rennes: 1-0
Rennes has simply given up and it is easy to see why. With their fourth consecutive loss and a single point in the entire season. Krasnodar is also aware that this is already the end of the line. Group E has spoken.
Dortmund – Club Brugge: 3-0
Between Haaland and Sancho, there was very little Brugge could do. Dortmund has already secured their spot in the next stage, but Lazio is too close for comfort. Brugge is going to have to step up in the match against Lazio. Otherwise, this is going to be the end of the line for them.
Lazio – Zenit: 3-1
Like Rennes, Zenit has one point. Lazio climbed up to the second position. If they win or draw against Brugge, they are set for the next stage. Group F is almost done with their selection.
Dinamo Kyiv – Barcelona: 0-4
No hat-tricks for Barcelona, but still a complete and utter annihilation of Dinamo. Barcelona is the only team in the group stage that has won all their matches so far.
Juventus – Ferencváros: 2-1
Ferencváros tried to redeem themselves and, in a way, they did so. However, with 12 points, Juventus will be joining Barcelona in the next stage of the competition. Group G is pretty clear on who gets to move on.
İstanbul Başakşehir – RB Leipzig: 3-4
This was truly an action-packed match where nothing was certain until the last minute. Though İstanbul lost, they had the star of the show. İrfan Kahveci scored all three goals for the Turkish side. Unfortunately, the game went into extra time, which allowed Leipzig to retaliate. Kahveci’s hat-trick is going into the history books. Leipzig is now far from İstanbul ‘s reach, with 9 points.
Man United – PSG: 1-3
This is a complete turnaround from what we’ve seen in October. The French completely dominated the English. Neymar scored the first and the final goal of the match. United committed a staggering number of fouls – 20. They also lost Fred to a red card. Now, PSG is at the top of Group H, but all is not lost. They share the number of points with United and Leipzig. This could be the victory the French needed to reach the top, as their final opponent is İstanbul.
