Atletico Madrid’s dream of reaching another Champions League finale has ended at the hands of Leipzig. The German club is through after a 2-1 victory over Los Colchoneros. This is the first time RB Leipzig has reached the semifinals of this competition.
Both teams started off well but it was the Spanish side that pushed in slowing down the pace of the match. And so they did which resulted in the first half ending without any goals.
But the second half brought a lot of excitement. Julian Nagelsmann’s men began playing their attacking style of football which eventually paid off. They took the lead in the 51st minute after the Spaniard, Dani Olmo, scored. However, Joao Felix was subbed in and changed the course of the match. He eventually grabbed an equalizer of the penalty spot.
Atletico once again started slowing the pace down and everyone thought that the match will head to overtime. But a marvelous pass from Marcel Sabitzer tore Atletico’s defense apart which eventually allowed Tyler Adams to score the winning goal for Die Roten Bullen.
Leipzig now has a real test on their hands as their next opponent is the star riddled Paris Saint-Germain.
