Olympique Lyon pulled another shocker in the 2020 Champions League. After dispatching Juventus in the last-16 of the tournament they have now eliminated another giant and the greatest favorite from the competition. With a staggering display of football, Lyon defeated Manchester City by 3-1.
It was Lyon that drew first blood and took the lead in the match. Maxwel Cornet took advantage of a situation that saw Ederson off his line and put the ball into the net from deep. A costly mistake by the Man City defense that resulted in a Lyon lead.
Manchester pressed on but couldn’t score by half time. However, Kevin De Bruyne scored to coveted goal for the Citizens with a long-range effort in the 69th minute of the game. Everyone thought that City was going to steamroll the French side from then, but then Moussa Dembele stepped on the pitch. The French forward grabbed two goals in the 79th and the dagger in the 87th, scheduling a semifinals matchup between Bayern and Lyon.
This is another blow for Pep Guardiola who just can’t seem to overcome the quarterfinals with Manchester City. Also, this is the second time that Lyon has eliminated the English side in the last four years.
