The new seasons in the best European football club competitions will begin soon. These are some of the contests whose popularity seems never to drop. And how could it go down? I mean, the best teams from all of Europe get to play it.
That said, you may have questions about the best English clubs in Europe and their performance. I asked myself the same thing. So, I checked the three main European tournaments and what we can expect from the English teams there.
English Teams in the Champions League
First of all, it’s kind of surprising that there are not 5 English teams in Champions League, but 4 instead. Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa will represent England in the CL.
The Premier League champions, Man City, are the number one favourites to win this competition. It’s more than obvious that we all expect a lot from Guardiola’s men. It may come as a surprise, but Arsenal is the third favourite in the entire tournament to lift the trophy. The Gunners even left teams like Bayern Munich behind on the list.
Liverpool is right behind Arsenal. This suggests that the English clubs in Europe (at least in the CL) are looked up to as big fish. Finally, Aston Villa will play in the Champions League for the first time. Villa positions itself somewhere above the middle of the list of teams most likely to win this tournament. As this is their first time, some experts think that they may play big but not really win the trophy.
English Clubs in Europa League
Teams from England that will compete in the Europa League are Man Utd and Tottenham. And guess what? These two teams are exactly the ones that bookies place at the very top when it comes to winning the Europa League.
Manchester United has had some harsh times in the previous months or even years. But while they don’t perform very well in the Premier League, they definitely do show great devotion in the European contests.
In addition, the Spurs will be their main rivals there. They even had a better season than United, ranking fifth, whereas the Red Devils ranked eighth. Tottenham proved that they can play big games without Harry Kane. Therefore, they will surely be in for winning the Europa League title this season.
English Teams in Europe Next Season – Conference League
Chelsea is the only team among all the English clubs in Europe in the Conference League for this season. As they ranked sixth and Man Utd won the FA Cup finals, the Blues were relegated to the Conference League.
The Enzo Maresca men should have played in the Europa League, but they are nevertheless the major contenders to the Conference League title. More specifically, the odds for the Blues to grab the trophy are pretty low. Even though their recent form hasn’t been great lately, Chelsea’s chances of achieving great results are big.
