With the second day of the last-16 of the 2020 Champions League over, we now have all the quarterfinalists set. The qualified teams are now ready to head off to Portugal where they are going to finish their Champions League campaign and battle it out for the coveted trophy.
Led by their captain and best player, Lionel Messi, Barcelona defeated Napoli by 3-1 (4-2 on aggregate) to qualify for the next round.
The Catalan side did have an unimpressive start. But everything changed in the 10th minute after Clement Lenglet scored a powerful header after a corner to give Blaugrana the lead. It was two up after Messi sent half of Napoli’s defense to the wrong side and netting the ball superbly past the Napoli keeper. Messi even won the penalty which Luis Suarez converted for a 3-0 lead.
Napoli only managed to score one back after a Lorenzo Insigne penalty just before the end of half-time. I Partenopei were the better side in the second half but Barca held on and did enough to preserve the score.
Bayern Munich put on an absolute clinic at Allianz Arena against Chelsea by thrashing them 4-1.
The competition’s top scorer, Robert Lewandowski as he scored both the first and the last goals for the Bavarian side. The other two goals were added by Ivan Perisic and substitute Corentin Tolisso who netted his goal mere moments after getting on the pitch. The lone goal for Chelsea was scored by Tammy Abraham in the dying seconds of the first half.
Bayern is now heavily favorited to win the Champions League while Chelsea finishes their rocky season with another defeat. But at least they have Champions League football to look forward to next season.
